From the mouth of babes...
Tonight at dinner I was telling my kids that I was going to be gone later this week. I told them I was going to a convention for Market America. My oldest asked why I was going. Here's how the conversation went:
Me: I'm going to a convention this week.
Oldest Daughter (5 yr): What's a convention?
Me: It's somewhere daddy is going to learn how to make more money.
Oldest Daughter: Oh, why?
Me: Because it will let us have the freedom to go on more vacations together and then daddy will also be able to spend more time with you guys.
Middle Daughter (3 yr): You're gonna be next to us...daddy, you're silly! [not sure where that came from, but it was cute]
Oldest Daughter: OK
Me: So, if your friends ever ask you for money or say they don't have money for something, tell them they need to talk to your daddy.
Oldest Daughter: Or maybe, if they ask for money or need it I can just give it to them.
Me and my wife: No, no, no...
Me: If you give someone $100 they will go and spend it, but if you show that person how to make $100 they can go and spend it, but make it again and again. But it's nice you want to give to others.
Oldest Daughter: Oh
My wife: If I asked if you wanted an egg or a chicken, what would you want?
Oldest Daughter: Chicken, so I can have more eggs
Me and my wife: Good choice
I tell this story, not only to express how my kids think, but to express the need to show kids the need for thinking and acting like an entrepreneur or business person. I know they are very young, but they need to be taught at some point, so why not start now. That's what I do, I teach. I would love to have all the money I could ever think of having, so I can give as much as I wanted to who ever needed it. But right now, I can't. But I'm getting there by finding new ways to create a constant flow of residual income. I'm on my way and I love showing others how to do it as well.
I've tried many "get rich quick" schemes and they always failed because the only way you made money was by selling the same "scheme" to others. There never was a product or service to sell other than the "scheme". Now I only work on proven systems or businesses I create.
I love teaching and showing others how to do things that will make them successful or get ahead of the rat race.
That is my true passion. Having children has allowed me to give that advice and teach all the time, whether it's on ways to earn money for that new toy or how to hammer a nail. I love it and it makes me happy. :)
